I say the word "favorite" a lot. I can't help it. I get so enthusiastic about books. But yesterday I was talking to the wondrous Sarah Wingfield, our Random House Children's Book rep, and I repeated that Flavia de Luce is my favorite character in literature...but is she? After a significant amount of thought, I have decided that, yes, Flavia de Luce really is my favorite character in literature. She had some competition, though, from these wondrous ladies:
1. Flavia de Luce, from The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley
2. Mum from the Tapestry series by Henry Neff
3. Lisbeth Salander from The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series by Stieg Larsson
I also love:
Skippyjon Jones
Quentin Compson from The Sound and the Fury (why?? I don't know!)
Bridget Jones!

I do so love Lisbeth Salander! I confess to not yet having read SWEETNESS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PIE, so I will save a spot in my favorites list for Flavia DeLuce. My other favorites:
Harriet the Spy
Scout from TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD
Christopher from A CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHTTIME
I'll second Ann's choice of Christopher from The Curious Incident, but I think my all-time favorite is probably Owen Meany from A PRAYER FOR OWEN MEANY.
Well, I love Fitzwilliam Darcy and Jamie Fraser. Ow wait, you didn't mean love like that, did you? ;-)
Anne Shirley from Anne of Green Gables has always been a favorite of mine. And Harriet the Spy too. Bookish and or imaginative heroines have always gotten me.
Anne Shirley is definitely my favourite literary character, followed closely by Elizabeth Darcy and Jo March. Strong, independent female characters.
Hmmm... I don't know if I could claim one favorite, but here are a few:
Scout from TKAM...Remus Lupin from the HP books...Pauline, Petrova, and Posy from Ballet Shoes...Darcy from P&P
