Bella's Bottlecaps

Since I've fallen down on the job (of reviewing books), I thought I'd take this time to promote our youngest entrepreneur, Isabella Hershey. She sells bottlecap magnets with awesome little pictures inside. They look like this, kind of:

The magnets are $1.98, and you're not limited to the ones that can be found in the store. If you find a picture that you love, Bella would be happy to make you a custom magnet. If you have any questions, you can call the store at (510) 339-8210 or email me (Jake) at p1ratewench@hotmail.com.

In other news, I did find time to read through this new baking book, which IS TOTALLY AWESOME:

Baked: New Frontiers in Baking
by Matt Lewis and Renato Poliafito

Baked is the lovechild of Matt Lewis and Renato Poliafito, who opened a bakery with the same name in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The cookbook features recipes which combine elements reminiscent from childhood (Malt Ball Cake with Chocolate Frosting, a diner-style chocolate pie made with Ovaltine) and amazingly inventive new recipes like Banana Espresso Chocolate Chip Muffins, Sweet and Salty Cake, and Root Beer Bundt Cake. There are also plenty of classic recipes. Every few pages features a full-page color photo which will seriously make your mouth water. The first thing I'm going to bake? (Yes, I bought this.) Butterscotch Pudding Tarts with oat wheat pie crust. Garnished with a crushed Butterfinger bar.
